About the Opportunity
Structural Engineers at ASC ensure the safe and efficient operation of the Collins Class Submarine fleet, vital to Australia’s naval capabilities.
This permanent, full-time role in Henderson, WA, involves maintenance activities. You’ll need to communicate effectively with diverse professionals, solve problems, and influence outcomes confidently.
Responsibilities
Support Collins Class Submarines during maintenance and in-service defects.
Develop work scopes and risk assessments for defects and maintenance issues.
Create and review structural documents, including root cause analysis, calculations, work instructions, and reports.
Conduct safety and technical risk assessments per the Defence Seaworthiness Management System.
Key working areas: submarine design, pressure hull, shock and vibration, pressure vessels, piping, fasteners, stress analysis, fatigue and fracture, support equipment, and general structural engineering.
About You
Bachelor of Engineering in Structural, Civil, Mechanical, Aviation, Naval Architecture, or similar (must meet MIEAust membership requirements).
Eligible for Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status.
Structural analysis in heavy engineering (shipbuilding or defence advantageous)
Working independently and within multi-disciplinary teams.
Resolving integration issues with stakeholders.
Building and maintaining professional relationships, self-motivation, and personal development.
Desirable (not mandatory):
Current Baseline or NV1 Clearance.
Naval maintenance or maritime systems operation experience.
Understanding of Defence Seaworthiness Management System (DSWMS).
Knowledge of submarine and pressure hull design.
Experience in submarines or shipbuilding environments.
Providing technical repair instructions or overseeing work.
Eligibility
This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
