Job Summary

The Head Office Safety, Security and Business Resilience, Technology and Accommodation (SSBRTA) Team are based in MOD Main Building, London. Its role is to ensure that MOD Main Building continues to operate in all foreseeable circumstances. The team works alongside key stakeholders to deliverer its primary objective and provide advice to Head Office on Safety, Security and Resilience matters.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job Description

This is an exciting role within SSBRTA which works to develop, improve, and enhance personnel security within Head Office. It offers a fantastic opportunity to work in a varied, challenging, friendly and supportive environment, working with high profile stakeholders and business units. The post holder will work to the Personnel Security Lead, developing strong relationships with a wide stakeholder group, both inside and outside the department.

A key part to the role will be to drive forward personnel security improvements in culture, education, and awareness through the implementation of the Personnel Security Strategy.

You will be responsible for travel and security briefings to Business Units including scrutinising requests for authority to travel. You will advise the Principal Security Advisor on changes to Departmental policy and wider Personnel Security changes, ensuring that these are implemented and communicated across the department, and you will liaise with other government departments on personnel security matters. The successful candidate will oversee Head Office’s vetting demand and prioritisation process and provide risk management advice to staff on appointing personnel at risk. The role will also support the STRAP and Pass Office Team within Head Office Security in the delivery of their duties. Occasionally you may be involved in helping to support the wider team in manage business resilience incidents occurring in Main Building and supporting the Head of Establishment in their broader responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

Implementation of the Personnel Security Strategy for Head Office.
Improving the security culture, awareness and education of Head Office and Main Building personnel.
Support the STRAP and Pass Office in the delivery of its duties.
Act as the Intelligent Customer for Vetting managing Head Office demand and prioritisation process.
Maintenance of the Head Office Personnel Security Risk Register, escalating risks as and when they arise including scrutinising requests to appoint at risk and advising on risk mitigation.
Provision of proportionate risk-based security advice to the Principal Security Advisor, Head of Establishment and Business Units on personnel security risk.
Implement and advise on overseas travel policy and scrutinising travel requests in line with Departmental policy.
Establish a personnel security network with a wide stakeholder group, both inside and outside the department.

We are supportive of hybrid working however due to the nature of the role, the individual will be expected to be in office a minimum of 3 days per week, with 4/5 days attendance being required regularly to support business demands.

Flexibility will be required for any work from home days as we are unable to guarantee set or regular days.

This post requires British nationality and DV clearance. As the post holder will have access to very sensitive information, there are limitations on travelling to a small number of countries and we will undertake additional security checks as part of the recruitment process. We are looking for an enthusiastic and engaging individual, who is comfortable in delivering change within an organisation. They should be confident in dealing with a wide range of high-profile stakeholders across the Department and be comfortable challenging the status quo.

It is desirable that the candidate has some experience of working in security or people area and is familiar, or willing to learn the principals of risk management.

We are looking for a team player, who has good communication and interpersonal skills combined with a calm and analytical approach to a wide range of business issues. The ability to clearly articulate issues as they arise is essential so that decisions can be made under pressure. A willingness to learn, develop, adapt and be flexible are key requirements.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working.
