About the Team
The Firing Tunnel Specialist will report to the Turret Assembly and Integration team. They will be responsible in ensuring that all criteria are fulfilled, in order to enter the shooting area and ensure shooting procedures are adhered to.
About The Role
The Firing Tunnel Specialist is responsible for assisting in the conduct of live firing and testing from turrets and weapons in accordance with the RDA Firing Tunnel standards at the Military Vehicle Centre of Excellence (MILVEHCOE).
This role ensures that all criteria are fulfilled to enter the Firing Tunnel, when conducting tests and when overseeing the participation of RDA customers. The Firing Tunnel Specialist will provide SME advice on weapons and weapon assemblies, as well as ensuring that all personnel using the Firing Tunnel are complying with safety procedures that guarantee the safety of all present.
The general and generic duties of the Firing Tunnel Specialist include, but are not limited to:
Completing the Inspection and pre-assembly checks of Weapon Assemblies and associated components prior to live fire activities being carried out;
Complete Pre and Post shipment technical inspections of Weapons Assembly and associated components; assist with generating warranty/technical reports for European stakeholders;
Completing Weapon assembly and Acceptance Test Protocols IAW OEM requirements;
Completing production documentation and test protocols related to the Weapons Integration, start-up, and commissioning process;
Investigating and resolving any test failure issues that may occur during Weapon Proofing, Test, Commissioning, and FAT processes;
Complete Weapon system technical reports and assist Quality department investigations and reporting as required;
Maintain the safe and efficient storage of required parts, tools and equipment in the workshop areas. Support the materials team to complete the movement, delivery, and inspection of parts and consumables;
Supporting the L400 service department with subject matter expertise in regards to Weapons and Turret maintenance and repair;
Complete work as required from time to time at other facilities including at the sites of RDA customers and suppliers;
Conduct self and work in accordance with company and site specific WH&S requirements; and
Other duties and responsibilities that may be required as determined with your manager from time to time.

The experience and skillset best suited to this role includes:
Minimum trade qualified fitter and turner (Cert III Engineering – Mechanical or equivalent);
Experience and qualifications in the handling of explosive ordnance;
Armourer experience and/or qualifications;
The ability to provide technical leadership to a multi-trade team integrating functions including mechanical and electrical assembly, commissioning and testing;
Experience working in a Defence industry (Desirable);
Range Safety officers qualifications for medium caliber (Desirable);
Bridge and gantry crane High Risk Work Licence (Desirable);
Ability to read and interpret production drawings, manuals, and technical documents;
Demonstrated understanding and the ability to apply quality control techniques;
Demonstrated ability to contribute to task planning and effective time management;
Eligibility to obtain an Australian Government Security Clearance (Australian Citizenship required).
