Background Information: This full-time position will serve as an RF technician within the Test Communications team at the Navys Atlantic Test Range (ATR) at Patuxent River, MD. The RF technician must have an understanding of not only basic electronics but also RF communication theory, practice and repair/service with the ability to apply engineering, technical, or maintenance specifications, policies, standards, and procedures to optimize RF performance and reliability. Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs operations, maintenance, documentation, and repairs of the Radio Frequency (RF) systems, to include AN/PRC-117Gs, URC-200s, URC-300s, CM-350s, and Microwave Systems
Performs the loading of COMSEC for secure communications
Performs RF cable fabrications
Will support Flight Termination Transmitter equipment
Will maintain and operate communications systems (voice and data that includes remote infrastructure) Note: This job description describes the general nature of the duties and requirements of the job. High school diploma or equivalent GED is required
Minimum of six years of experience in performing the stated or similar job functions to be considered at the Tech III level; Minimum eight years of experience for the Tech IV level
Must be able to use a spectrum analyzer proficiently as well as using maintenance tools such as network analyzers, and other RF and non-RF measurement equipment such as digital multimeters, oscilloscope, watt meters, etc.
Experience with RF communications is a prerequisite for this position. The individual must possess the ability to measure RF characteristics such as Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR)
Must have knowledge of basic electricity/electronics and RF theory, practices and repair/service with the ability to apply engineering, technical, or maintenance specifications, policies, standards, and procedures
Must have mechanical aptitude and fabrication skills
Must be a self-starter and be able to use initiative to undertake activities with minimal supervision. Work is reviewed for technical adequacy at completion.
Hands-on experience with military communications systems is preferred
Knowledge of test range operations is a plus
Must be able to work overtime (notionally 15% to 25%) within some strenuous environments, including shipboard and be able to travel at least 20% annually, including some maritime travel
Must possess a valid drivers license and successfully pass a Drug Screening Clearance Requirements:
Currently hold or be able to obtain and maintain the proper US DoD issued security clearance, which requires US Citizenship. Security clearance eligibility may be discussed during the interview phase.
