Overview
This position is physically located in the Marshall Islands in support of LOGCAP***
Chief Diver performs work below the surface of water, is responsible for conducting underwater surveys and executing underwater recoveries. The incumbent is responsible for conducting scheduled/unscheduled maintenance on assigned equipment underwater and on the surface and work including but not limited to, underwater construction, maintenance, repairs, and inspections.

Assists in the planning and execution of underwater surveys and mission recovery operations
Performs scheduled, unscheduled or emergency maintenance and repairs on all equipment assigned to the Dive Locker
Operates vessels assigned to the Dive Locker as required based on training
Repairs and maintains all local buoys and moorings
Performs related work as assigned
Performs work in port and at sea on board the assigned vessel or other vessels/duties assigned within the department
Performs work using hand tools such as drills, torches and welding equipment typically required for water vessel repair
Works safely in an underwater vessel and in confined spaces
Ensures all members of the dive team are operating safely while performing all of the job duties required in the field
Completion of all job-specific, employee-related MER Diving paperwork including daily job reports, dive logs, AHA/JHAs, dive plans, and inspection results.
Oversees executing administrative and maintenance on hyper/hypobaric systems. Provide 24-hour per day service as emergency contingency for recompression chamber operations.
Part of the Emergency Response team
Responsible for the maintenance of a comprehensive operational Diving Smooth Log for the Command, which is evidence of actual diving operations
Coordinate with other departments on marine issues and range mission requirements
Removes launching cradles and sliding ways from keels of newly launched vessels, using power and hand tools, and places rigging around sunken objects and hooks rigging to crane lines.
Oversees the day to day activities of subcontracted labor
Takes decisive action to eliminate unsafe conditions.
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Education/Certifications: One-year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience:
Five years’ previous commercial diving experience
Five years’ experience running/supervising hyperbaric chamber operations
Preferred: Ten years’ previous commercial diving experience; 100 Ton Near Coastal U.S. Coast Guard Captain’s License.
Skills:
Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and storage requirements to meet compatibility of products based on hazard class is required.
Leadership and management skills, including a professional demeanor, are required.
Strong interpersonal skills are required.
Experience running and supervising hyperbaric chamber operations
Ability to exercise discretion and good judgement is required.
Ability to prioritized responsibilities to handle a demanding workload is required.
Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy is required.
Advance ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in written form is required.
High-level organizational and planning skills, so that workflow is managed and accurate is required.
Basic proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook and ALL Microsoft applications is required.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervises the dive team for all jobs
Prioritizes work and teams for multiple jobs at once
Supervises hyperbaric chamber operations
Responsible for supervisory oversight of the dive locker
Working Conditions:
Must be capable of working in an extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, dry, duty, desert environment with average temperatures of 30 degrees in the winter and 130 degrees in the summer months). Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well.
The worker may be required to spend extended time in pressurized environments or underwater
Physical Requirements:
Medium and up to Heavy work. Exerting up to 50 pounds to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Candidates must be physically able to enter confined spaces (i.e. tanks and voids), climb ladders and masts aboard their assigned ships while in port or at sea in order to validate maintenance requirements.
Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.
Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
