Defence School of Transport Leconfield, Normandy Barracks, Beverley, Quartermasters department HU17 7LX. This position is unsuitable for hybrid working and there is a requirement to attend site daily given the nature of the responsibilities and requires direct liaison with on-site contractors and quartermaster support staff.
Job Summary
The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. Within that, the Army Top Level Budget (TLB) employs around 7,000 MOD Civil Servants located at over 300 locations. The Defence School of Transport (DST), based at Normandy Barracks in Leconfield, recognised as a ‘Centre of Excellence’, provides driver and transport management training to personnel from the Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Marines, training 10,000 service personnel every year, delivering outstanding training on road-going and specialist military vehicles. To meet this vast training task our dedicated establishment of 700 military and civilian personnel operates a fleet of 600 vehicles ranging from saloon cars to Mechanical Handling Equipment (MHE) professional to specialist military trucks and lease-hire LGV. Job Description
The Defence School of Transport are looking to appoint a highly motivated, hard-working, and dynamic individual to be the Quartermaster Technical. As an integral member of the quartermaster’s team, you will work closely with the quartermaster maintenance informing the chain of command of any logistical issues that may impact on training, especially those for change and extraordinary operational demands. This is a critical role delivering a key enabling function, vital to delivering operational capability for defence. The role will provide you with an excellent opportunity to operate in a professional, highly motivated, and positive environment. You will be supported by a highly experienced work force and mentored by the Staff Quartermaster.
Responsibilities Will Include:
You will be expected to lead a multi-functional team that covers all elements of technical support for the Quartermasters department
You will be integral in managing the units Equipment Entitlement (EE) circa £550m, the units fleet holdings circa 650 platforms, ranging from generators up to Oshkosh tractor units
You will be responsible for a financial authority of up to £2m covering local purchase, fuel, general stores and office equipment, acting as lead for the Military Transport Fuels Installation (MTFI) and lead financial officer, controlling all E-Catalogue expenditure, quartermaster personnel access, demand powers and demand financial limits
You will lead on many inspections from our higher formations which includes logistic support assurance & inspections, MTFI fuel licensing and MTFI Inspections by the Army fuels group, Land Equipment Assurance (LEA), security inspections effecting any platforms with specialised armour, Attractive to Criminal and Terrorist Organizations (ACTO) equipment and BOWMAN
You will be responsible for ensuring the School has the correct basic user fleet for its output, increasing or decreasing the fleet to ensure platforms are not underutilised. You will form a close working relationship between the Units Equipment Liaison Officer (ESLO) and our higher formations equipment support and land support equipment
Act as lead authorised demanding officer for the vehicle private financed initiative (PFI) fleet and technical lead to the Chief of Staff for equipment care

Person specification
It Is Essential That The Successful Candidate Will:
Have working experience of using management tools, including management information systems (MIS) and be prepared to be trained to utilise the MODs Joint Asset Management Equipment Information System (JAMES MIS)
Have an understanding of stores tracking and inventory systems and act as site custodian on these platforms
Understand safe working practices, in order to act as the radiation safety officer for the storage and safe working practices of all personnel dealing with radioactive sourced equipment
Have experience communicating and influencing external stakeholders as there will be a requirement to engage with both higher and peer organisations including contractors on a weekly basis
Desirable:
A previous background as a military quartermaster / or all arms quartermaster qualified
MJDI (MA) qualified
