Rolls-Royce wins £9bn UK submarine contract in ‘boost to jobs and nuclear deterrent’

 

• Rolls-Royce has secured a £9bn contract with the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) to power the nation’s nuclear submarines.
• The eight-year agreement, known as Unity, is designed to sustain 4,000 existing nuclear submarines and create 1,000 jobs.
• The deal, announced at Rolls-Royce’s nuclear reactor production facility in Derby, is expected to boost national security and economic growth.
• The Unity contract spans eight years and includes research and technology, design, production, and maintenance support for the nuclear reactors that power the Royal Navy’s submarine fleet.
• The deal is expected to create more than 1,000 UK jobs and safeguard a further 4,000 roles.
• The deal was announced at Rolls-Royce’s nuclear reactor production facility in Derby by defence secretary John Healey.
• The UK government awarded a £9 billion contract to Rolls-Royce for the design and manufacture of nuclear reactors to power the nation’s submarine fleet.
