Arms giant Rheinmetall lands contract to digitalize German military
• German arms giant Rheinmetall has secured a major contract for the digitalization of the Bundeswehr, the country’s armed forces.
• The contract, worth €1.2bn gross, includes the integration of IT systems for all vehicle and platform-systems of the land forces.
• Rheinmetall Electronics GmbH will be responsible for setting up an end-to-end communications network. A procurement contract has been signed with the German government.
• The total volume of the contract, which has a term of six years, is €1.98bn gross, with Rheinmetall accounting for half of this amount.
• Rheinmetall and German defence contractor KNDS Deutschland will jointly equip 10,000 German military vehicles with digital radios in a six-year contract worth a total of €1.98 billion ($2.06).
• In a separate development, Rheinmetall, in partnership with blackned GmbH, has secured a EUR1.2 billion ($1.26 billion) contract to integrate IT systems for all vehicle and platform systems of the German Army’s land forces.
• Rheinmetall will account for approximately €730 million of the contract volume, while blackned GmbH will account for around 470 million euros.
