Malaysian Shares Rebound on Higher Than Expected Exports; Pekat’s Shares Rise Over 3%

Malaysian shares ended in black on Thursday, reversing losses of the previous session, thanks to optimistic trade data.

The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI, the main gauge of Malaysian stocks, gained 5.06 points to end 0.30% higher at 1,665.65. The day range was between 1,657.13 and 1,665.84.

In economic news, exports rose 12.1% year over year in August to 129.2 billion ringgit, faster than the forecast of a 11.7% rise. Imports, meanwhile, jumped 26.2% to 123.5 billion ringgit versus a year ago, according to data released by the country’s Department of Statistics on Thursday. Total trade jumped 18.6% to 252.7 billion ringgit from 213 billion ringgit in the previous year.

In corporate news, shares of Pekat Group PPEKAT unit closed over 3% higher on Thursday after its unit Pekat Solar secured a 115 million ringgit engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) deal from MF Solar Tronoh.

Shares of TSR Capital TSRCAP dropped over 4% on close after its unit TSR Bina secured a deal for the proposed construction and completion of earthworks, infrastructure works and other associated work in Selangor, Malaysia, for 75 million ringgit from Sime Darby Property SIMEPROP.
