Indian defence ministry orders ship-launched surface-to-air missiles
• The Indian Ministry of Defence (MOD) has ordered the shipment of new medium-range surface-to-air missiles (MRSAMs) for deployment on the Indian Navy’s surface ships.
• The MRSAMs are armed with advanced weapons such as the jointly-developed Brahmos supersonic cruise missiles, vertically-launched Shtil Surface-to-Air Missiles with enhanced ranges, upgraded medium-range anti-air and surface gun with advanced stealth features, optically-controlled close-range rapid fire gun system, and anti-submarine torpedoes.
• The Ministry of Defence has also signed a contract with Bharat Dynamics Limited for Medium-Range Surface-to-Air Missiles (MR-SAM) for the Indian Navy.
• The Indian Navy and DRDO successfully flight-tested a vertically launched short-range surface-to-air missile off Odisha’s coast.
• The Defence Ministry confirmed the system’s performance, enhancing the Navy’s operational capabilities.
• The VL-SRSAM is a ship-borne weapon system meant for neutralizing various aerial threats at close ranges including the sea.
