Defence ministry signs ₹1,561-crore contract for bridge laying tanks

 

• The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has signed a Rs 1,561 crore contract with Heavy Vehicles Factory (HVF) for the procurement of 47 T-72 Bridge Laying Tanks (BLTs) for the Indian Army.
• The contract is part of the Armoured Vehicle Nigam Limited (AVNL) and is expected to enhance battlefield mobility and offensive capability.
• The T-72 Bridge Laying Tanks (BLTs) are crucial equipment used by the Indian Army’s mechanised forces to launch bridges during both offensive and defensive operations.
• The contract was finalized in the presence of Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh in New Delhi on January 21, 2025.
• The T-72 Bridge Laying Tanks, weighing around 49 tons with a seating capacity of three, play a crucial role in bridging operations for tanks and armoured Army vehicles, enhancing the Indian Army’s offensive capabilities.
