Defence ministry inks Rs 1,561 cr contract for 47 bridge laying tanks
• The Ministry of Defence has signed a contract worth Rs 1,561 crore with Heavy Vehicles Factory for the procurement of 47 T-72 Bridge Laying Tanks for the Indian Army.
• The equipment will enhance battlefield mobility and offensive capability, supporting the ‘Make in India’ initiative and boosting the economy and employment opportunities.
• The Ministry of Defence has also signed a Rs 2,585-Cr deal with Larsen & Toubro (L&T) to procure 41.
• The contract was signed in the presence of Defence Secretary, Rajesh Kumar Singh, in the Ministry of Defence.
• The T-72 Bridge Laying Tanks, weighing around 49 tons with a seating capacity of three, play a crucial role in bridging operations for tanks and armoured Army vehicles, enhancing the Indian Army’s offensive capabilities.
• The contract was signed by senior officials of the Ministry of Defence and Heavy Vehicles Factory, Avadi (HVF), a unit of Armoured Vehicle Nigam Limited (AVNL).
