APEX ammunition contract to supply RAAF F-35 aircraft

 

• Australian Air Force (RAAF) has signed a contract with Norwegian-Finnish defense firm Nammo to supply advanced APEX 25mm armor-piercing ammunition to its F-35A fighter jets.
• The contract, valued at $22.9 million ($14.2 million), marks the first major sale of the cutting-edge ammunition.
• The ammunition is designed specifically for the F-35A’s GAU-22/A cannon, with production set to commence this year and deliveries expected to be completed by 2027.
• The APEX rounds provide several operational advantages, including effectiveness against diverse targets, enhanced warhead performance, and improved accuracy.
• The Royal Australian Air Force intends to equip its F-35A fighter aircraft with 25 mm APEX ammunition supplied by Nammo.
